NHLPA
The National Hockey League Players' Association is a labour union whose members are the players of the NHL and whose mandate is to represent their interests. Headquartered in Toronto, the NHLPA has a staff of approximately 50 employees who work in such varied disciplines as labor law, product licensing and community relations.
While the management of daily operations is the responsibility of an Executive Director - currently Robert W. Goodenow - ultimate power over all NHLPA activities resides with the players, who each year elect representatives from their respective NHL teams in order to form an Executive Board. Overseeing the board is an Executive Committee, which currently consists of President Trevor Linden, who replaced Mike Gartner in June 1998, and Vice-Presidents, Arturs Irbe, Adam Graves, Bob Boughner, Vincent Damphousse, Daniel Alfredsson, and Bill Guerin.

...Vincent Damphousse, récemment nommé vice-président de l'Association des joueurs de la Ligue nationale, soulignait à Pierre Trudel, l'autre jour, à CKAC, que les joueurs n'accepteront jamais un plafond salarial. Bon, je sais que Vincent est un bonhomme intelligent, il a un solide jugement, mais les joueurs de la NBA ont un plafond salarial et ça semble fonctionner. Même chose dans la NFL. Je sais qu'il est difficile pour les joueurs de faire des compromis quand il se trouve encore des propriétaires assez téméraires pour accorder des contrats de $45 millions pour cinq ans à un joueur qui n'a jamais atteint le plateau des 40 buts. Mais, les joueurs doivent aussi comprendre que l'ascenseur monte et qu'elle doit aussi descendre...

...General Manager Dean Lombardi issued an organization-wide homework assignment for the off-season: Find ways to spruce up the power play. Everyone studied tape. Ideas were shared. Lombardi even visited center Vincent Damphousse in Montreal to swap thoughts.
``Last year Detroit had everything wrapped up before March,'' Lombardi said. ``We're fighting for our lives until the last week. At five-on-five, we were plus-35. Detroit was plus-37. What's the difference? That's where your power play shows up.''
The Red Wings were second in the league at 20.3 percent. The Sharks ranked 13th at 16 percent, an improvement from 24th and 14 percent in 2000-01 but short of their expectations...
